1679 Spring Drive | Louisville KY | 40205 | Louisville Homes for Sale

1679 Spring Dr Entry Door

Some homes lend themselves to artistic description rather than real estate jargon, and 1679 Spring Drive in Louisville, Kentucky is such a property.  Restored in a manner fitting of its period, this 1920s Center Hall Colonial has been reworked, opened up, and renewed by the current owner.  Great attention to detail goverened this project which began in 2004.  The idea was to create above-grade living spaces that are elegant to look at, remain true to their original style, and comfortable to live in, and the results are simply spectacular.

Beginning with the setting, 1679 Spring Drive is located in one of Louisville's most sought-after, discussed, and generally beloved locations.  The uniqueness of the location, however, does not stop with the zip code or even the street on which the property sits.  The uniqueness of this beautiful home's location is summed up by its proximity to, and view of, Louisville's Olmsted-designed Cherokee Park, as well as simple navigation to the Highlands.  From atop the hill overlooking the intersection of Cherokee Road and Spring Drive, the expansive covered front porch offers views of Cherokee Park and its surrounding exquisite residences that are impossible to replicate or to adequately describe.  The private front driveway leads to a recently completed parking terrace of stone and brick which offers space to park near the front door.

1679 Spring Drive Front View

Inside the front door is a most welcoming and wide formal entry hall which spans the depth of the home to the backyard.  Impeccably restored Rich Chocolate Brown Hardwood floors, splendid millwork (some original, some newer, nearly impossible to distinguish between the new and the original), and streaming natural light will impress the most sophisticated home buyer.  The charming arched doorways are a favorite as well.

The spacious formal living room is spectacularly lit by four sets of charming French doors allowing the outside to seemingly come inside.  Between two sets of French Doors is the charming fireplace.  There is a perfectly placed dining terrace located off of the back left set of French Doors with views of the Otte-designed and landscaped backyard as well as a focused view of the upscale Highlands residential scene which borders Cherokee Park toward the front of the home.  Back inside and across the entry hall is the owner's office where she has written several books.  Formerly the dining room, this space is equally well-lit and provides a breathtaking view of Highlands residences and greenery from the park.  A stunning arched doorway leads to the comfortable dining room which has been enhanced by gorgeous built-ins and a dramatic picture window which provides an excellent view of the backyard, terraces, and charming stone walls.  The French-inspired Kitchen is outstanding and has been renovated with serious cooks in mind.  Built-ins, custom cabinetry, butcher block counters, sparkling chrome fixtures, and commercial stainless steel appliances blend together to form a wonderful space for conversing while cooking.  Completing the first floor is a charming Powder Room with pretty tile and tucked under the restored staircase.

Up the stairs, linger on the intermediate landing where a large window allows in great natural light and gives an outstanding view of the backyard.  Three spacious bedrooms, including the deluxe Master Suite, comprise the second floor.  The Master Bedroom was two separate bedrooms, but the owner removed a wall, creating an owner's suite fit for royalty.  Several windows provide excellent light, two closets were added, and wonderful built-ins were created to make this bedrooms truly special.  The the French-inspired en suite master bath features beveled glass mirrors, heated tile floor, exposed plumbing and hardware from American Bath Factory, a marble topped sink from Architectural Salvage, and Herbeau L'Art du Sanitaire depuis 1857 French commode.

Bedrooms 2 and 3 on the second floor are generous in size and filled with light.  Another renovated full bath serves these two bedrooms.  Completing the second floor are two additional closets.  One is a surprising cedar closet large enough to store seasonal clothing, and the coat closet has multiple hanging bars for additional storage.

The third floor is a wonderful surprise.  The restoration of the walls and ceilings is truly marvelous.  Though this space has typically housed guests and has been lightly utilized, the renovation quality did not cease.  There is a spacious bedroom with en suite bath that the new owner will want to rework.  A TV or Family Room with charming dormered windows and an absolutely remarkable laundry room which feels more like a cafe complete the third floor.  Additionally, this distinctive Colonial has an unfinished basement.

1679 Spring Drive Backyard

The backyard has been transformed by the owner's design choices creating terrific privacy and peace to the extent that one has a difficult time fathoming that he or she is actually in the city while relaxing amongst the greenery or by the private saltwater pool.
